Someth: Combat Vet, Former Buddhist, And Khmer Pastor

by Dan Kersten on June 24, 2025

In the late 1970s, before he met Jesus, Pastor Someth was a rebel soldier fighting the Khmer Rouge in the jungles of Cambodia. The battles were bloody and terrifying. But Someth didn’t worry about being shot because he believed his magical tattoos protected him.

During the Khmer Rouge war, Someth believed these tattoos protected him from harm.

Today he is called Pastor Someth! He proudly shows us his favorite spiritual resource for ministry--the Khmer FireBible.

When we met Someth in front of the church he pastors, Prey Dach Assembly of God, he showed us these remnants of his Buddhist-animist past. Then he showed us what he called the greatest source of spiritual power and protection in his home—his Khmer FireBible.

Many Light for the Lost partners contributed to the translation and development of this one-book Pentecostal library for Khmer-speaking pastors. Someth is one of many hundreds of Khmer pastors and leaders who regularly study and preach from these Bibles.

Thank you for your investments in the FireBible! Through Pastor Someth, people from a spiritually depressed and hopeless Buddhist background (including the children pictured here) are learning the truth about Lord Jesus and how they can follow His teachings, rather than the Buddha’s.
